About the Business
Most people are familiar with the spectacular moves and fighting techniques which are heavily featured in Kung Fu movies. The careers and exploits of Kung Fu's better known exponents such as Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Jet Li are legendary and have helped to promote Kung Fu in the west.
However, Kung Fu has many different styles - you may have seen the Shaolin Monks with their 'Wheel of Life' show. This is an acrobatic style from the northern part of China. Not everyone knows, however, that Tai Chi is also a martial art, a style which is gentle and flowing in appearance. Lau Gar is a southern Chinese style of Kung Fu. Southern styles emphasise stable stances and short, strong hand techniques, said to have developed due to the confined space in the old city streets and alleys and the instability of small river boats.
The Lau Gar system (Lau Gar means Lau family or clan) was originally taught only to those with the surname Lau.

This was a busy and excellent club. The children loved the instructors and the male instructor was not crabby as the other review says. He was a lovely man who helped everyone. The visiting instructors were always great and fun. As for Andrina, she would help anyone that showed they wanted to train and she got on well with everyone in the club, hence why she was there for a very long time. The negative review given basically shows a disgruntled person who doesn't understand what training is. In regard to arm conditioning, arms have to touch and you have to build up your resistance for when you get hit for real. If you had an instructor's grade, which you insinuate you do, then you would know that. Sounds like you were bitter against the male instructor and senior female member. Everyone who trained in that club had good humour, and respect and trained hard and most of all got on well with each other. Obviously, except for you as you can only try and trash people's names and characters because you are bitter! Have a nice day.
Attended for over one year about 12 years ago. Attitude problems: Senior instructor appeared aloof, crabbit and unaccepting of my senior status limitations. His wife and son had a good attitude in assisting training. Senior member Andrina had a cold manner. Visiting male instructor was unhelpful and unfriendly. Conditioning exercises of banging arm muscles together with a partner seemed more damaging than useful and I was criticised for complaining. The senior instructor stated words to effect that I was a "Jessie" for an involuntary flinch during a self-defence routine with a partner. Although all of this put a stop to my previous 7 year's involvement, I am now in the process of returning to my old instructor grade entitlement in the Glasgow area.
