JKN Ian Merricks is the head instructor and school owner of Kuk Sool Won of Hinckley and has been training for several years.

Having participated in other martial arts in his early years JKN Ian always wanted to get back into Martial Arts but despite trying various schools / styles it always felt as if something was missing, in 2006 he stumbled upon a small Kuk Sool Won school in Hinckley having arranged a trial session the art had everything he was looking for and more, forms, techniques, break falls, acrobatics, weapons throws, grappling, kicking and more… JKN Ian has been hooked ever since.

JKN Ian spent as much time as he could at the dohjang training and helping the instructor team as much as he could in the children’s and junior classes, as he progressed through the ranks his confidence grew and he soon started representing his School and competing in the UK and European Tournaments often winning medals in Techniques, Forms and Sparring as well as helping teach in many classes of all ages

In 2010 JKN was awarded his 1st Degree Black Belt alongside his good friends and training partners in Norwich by Kuk Sool Won founder and Grandmaster In Hyuk Suh.

A short time after JKN Ian transferred to Kuk Sool Won of Tamworth to continue his training under the supervision of Master John Gravenell 6th Degree Blackbelt and his instructor team where he continues to train and test frequently to shape his own training and to continue his Kuk Sool Journey towards his 2nd Degree Blackbelt.
